Help Support Your Fairbanks Meals on Wheels Program So No Senior Goes Hungry!

Meals on Wheels is a state-funded program for qualified individuals.

Since the 1950s, Congress has provided funding—through the Older Americans Act—which helps run community-based senior nutrition programs, such as Meals on Wheels, across the nation. In 1973, the Fairbanks Senior Center established the first Meals on Wheels program in the interior of Alaska; to this day, we are still the only one!

With help from our wonderful volunteer drivers, we serve homebound seniors and disabled individuals a hot lunch 5 days a week.

Last year alone, 531 seniors received meals, and together, our programs delivered 66,169 meals across Fairbanks—each one a moment of nourishment, safety, and human connection. Through Home Delivered Meals, 315 seniors received 55,506 meals, ensuring that homebound elders were not left behind during long winter months. In our congregate meal sites, 466 seniors shared 10,663 meals, finding community, conversation, and comfort at the Senior Center and the Fairbanks Native Association dining rooms.

This program is a critical program helping our Seniors stay in their homes as long as possible. We, the staff of the Senior Center, are extremely proud of being a part of this program, which helps so many folks. If you have a few extra dollars, please donate to the fund so that we are able to continue to do what we do for our elders.
